We are on the hunt for a Senior Instructor/Safety and Operations Officer to join our team.

Rotoiti Lodge Outdoor Education Centre (RLOEC) has been operating in the Nelson lakes Nation Park for the past 50 years, it is situated on the western side of St Aruand overlooking Lake Rotoiti. The Centre is well positioned to make the most of the environment that surrounds it. St Arnaud is just over an hour from Nelson and Blenheim.

Our Centre run a range of activities that cover High Ropes to Mountain Biking to Tramping to Canoe Expeditions and Sit on Top Kayaking. If you are looking for a position with variety and fun and enjoy working with school students, we would love to hear from you.

The Safety and Operations Officer is responsible for overseeing the safe operation of our camps, providing training to our instructor team and to other visiting staff.  They are also responsible for ensuring that we are always “Audit ready”, but the best part is that this isn’t an office role it is a hands on role.

We want someone who can

Supervise our instructor team and visiting staff, to ensure a well-run camp
Instruct secondary school students and other user groups in outdoor skills including High and Low ropes, Mountain biking, Overnight tramping/canoe trips, Sit on Top Kayaking and other group activities.
Providing ongoing training and support for the instructor team and visiting school staff
Maintain our Safety and Operations Manual and ensure that we are “Audit Ready”
Run familiarisation training for visiting staff
The carrying out of Maintenance work at the Centre, we take pride in the presentation of our centre and as team we work to ensure that it is kept in a high standard, so our clients want to use it and we feel proud of it.
Applicants must have

Outdoor instructional experience and appropriate skills/qualifications
Current First Aid qualifications (minimum Outdoor First Aid), PHEC preferred
A full driver’s license (Passenger endorsement is desirable)
Ability to work in a small team environment and can achieve effective rapport with students and visiting teachers.
An understanding of the Adventure Activities regulations and Safety Auditing
An understanding of related personal and group development and how this can be facilitated in the outdoors
