Overview

The Motutapu Outdoor Education Camp seeks suitably experienced and enthusiastic outdoor instructors to join our awesome team. The position commences at the beginning of August 2019 and runs through to mid December 2019. The successful applicant may have the opportunity to renew the contract for the season February 2020 – June 2020 and beyond. This is an exciting opportunity to work for one of the best known Outdoor Activity Centres in the industry, with great staff and an amazing work environment.

We seek people with a passion for inspiring youth in the outdoors, some instructional experience, and preferably NZOIA qualifications in rock, bush or sea kayak. For those with this higher skill set, there may be the opportunity to assist on our Central Plateau programs that include caving, outdoor rock climbing, and the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

Work will include leading groups on a range of activities based on Motutapu Island, a pest free Island in the beautiful Hauraki Gulf. Successful applicants will be required to assist in the maintenance and the overall efficient day to day running of the camp, in addition to the core Instructional role. Some weekend work will also be required.

Candidates must have experience in outdoor instruction and be confident and competent in rope work and one water based pursuit. You must have a willingness to train in all activities offered at MOEC and in return will be given opportunities to develop your individual skills and knowledge.
Successful applicants will be able to work independently within our hard working team with the aim to provide quality outdoor experiential education.

Successful applicants will be trained to lead a variety of activities including sailing, snorkeling, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, waka ama, high ropes, climbing, abseiling, archery, environmental education, and more. While our camp hosts groups of all ages and backgrounds, your main focus will be on youth & school groups with ages ranging mainly from 11-15.

As this position is residential, a weekly rate plus accommodation is offered.

About Motutapu Outdoor Education Camp Trust

Our mission statement is "to provide quality outdoor experiential education, capitilising on the unique situation of the camp".

The Motutapu Outdoor Education Camp Trust was registered in 1992 as an Incorporated Charitable Trust. The trust began to take over control of the camp from the Department of Conservation in 1995,  and has been successfully operating and improving the facility since then.

We offer accommodation and a wide range of activities including: sailing, kayaking, high ropes, climbing, waka ama, orienteering, confidence course, historic walks, environmental programmes, etc.  As MOEC is located so close to New Zealand’s largest and most populous city we provide a readily accessible and affordable venue and facility that is we believe, second to none.

We are an Outdoors Mark accredited organisation meaning that our safety systems and procedures meet or exceed industry regulatory requirements.
