Motutapu Outdoor Education Camp (MOEC) is looking for a new Head of Programme for the Central Plateau region. If you are an experienced instructor looking for a diverse role this could be the position for you. MOEC runs programmes in the Central Plateau for 20 weeks throughout the year where your role is based during those weeks. These programmes provides activities including but not limited to rock climbing, abseiling, tramping, bush survival skills, and caving.
The rest of the year, when not leading the CP Programme, the role is based on Motutapu Island, Hauraki Gulf, Auckland, where you will assist the management team, but also get the opportunity to instruct a range of both land and water based activities. Activities on the island include; kayaking, snorkelling, sailing, SUP, Waka Ama, high ropes, low ropes, climbing wall, abseiling, archery, and more.
Roles & Responsibilities
While in the Central Plateau, your role will be to oversee and manage all programme logistics. Your responsibilities will include planning and running staff training, adhering to and updating safety management plans, improving upon and developing programme activities, managing the other instructors on site, and instructing both year 10 camps and more intensive year 12 leadership programmes.
While on Motutapu Island, your role will be to assist the rest of the management team and also instruct a variety of activities with visiting clients (mostly student groups). Your responsibilities will also include assisting the Senior Instructor with training and assessing the instructor team.
With this mix of responsibilities, your role will have a wonderful balance between administrative management work along with a large amount of time working directly with clients in a gorgeous outdoor setting.
- At least 2 years of experience working in the outdoors
- At least 1 year management experience
- NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa
- Experience instructing rock climbing or ropes activities
- Current first aid training (PHEC or equivalent)
Highly Desirable Candidates will also have the following additional skills:
- NZOIA Rock 1 (or equivalent)
- NZOIA Bush 1 (or equivalent)
- High level of awareness in regards to risk management
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Computer literacy in programmes including Microsoft and Google Drive suites
- Competitive salary negotiable based on prior experience

Time frame: The starting date for this job is 1st of December 2019 with a 2 year commitment.

The Motutapu Outdoor Education Camp Trust was registered in 1992 as an Incorporated Charitable Trust. The trust began to take over control of the camp from the Department of Conservation in 1995, and has been successfully operating and improving the facility since then.
