Description

Kia Ora!

I am a passionate and ever evolving environmental adventurer with a personably infectious character as well as solid managerial, guiding and outdoor experience, where I have recently completed a two month expedition in a remote field setting of Mexico that focused on biodiversity surveying on an array of wildlife. More recently in El Salvador, I spent a month as a surf and yoga instructor, as well as assisting wild sea bird rescues. I also educated and guided tourists of the local Sea Turtle conservation project at hand. Previously, I was based in Franz Josef as a Ranger ensuring that visitors had a memorable and informative experience in the rugged Glacier Country.

As an experienced leader, I appreciate that building relationships and working in collaboration with various stakeholders (schools, parents, teachers, and customers) are critical components for successful outcomes. No matter their background, interpreting information or giving advice in coherent yet interesting methods for the specific scenario at hand is always needed. This requires strong situational and self awareness of dynamic settings where swift strategic planning is required. I.e. presenting interactive environmental educational lectures/workshops at schools that tailor to their requirements.

Great first impressions are vital memorable imprints left upon visitors, where I’ve had many an experience of this in various roles of guiding, where working as a Ranger I persevered to ensure that the whole experience went beyond the expectations of the visitor, thus leaving them wanting to know more about the amazing array of beauty New Zealand has to offer. Not to mention sometimes divulging my intimate knowledge of the unique flora and fauna of Tai Poutini and Fiordland National Parks to those who thirsted for more.

With a progressive background in environmental conservation, I continually adapt and prioritise workloads in a timely fashion, yet always innovatively thinking of new ideas for ongoing projects at hand as well as having a myriad of experience and interest in many environments. Where working at height or in high risk settings I understand delivering specific tasks within the role need to be executed in a timely, effective and safe manner as well as being versatile for unknown situations to address, which is reflected strongly of my time guiding in remote parts of South East Asia, Oceania and Central America.

As an avid tramper, rock climber, kayaker, surfer and all round adventure enthusiast I want to continue delivering great customer satisfaction in the majestic setting of the New Zealand outdoors.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

David Duggleby
