About Me
I am a Geography graduate with a passion for teaching and all things outdoors. I have experience with rock climbing, hiking, camping, cycling, ropes courses, canoeing/kayaking and rafting. I love being surrounded by nature and learning about all aspects of outdoor life. I have experience teaching groups aged six to sixty about the outdoors in a variety of settings, including camp-based and journey type work.
In my spare time, I am an avid road cyclist and triathlete, and held captaincy positions on my university cycling team for my last two years of university.
Work Experience
Group Leader/Cycle Support, The Outdoor Education Group (OEG)
January – December 2018
For 2018, I worked for the Outdoor Education Group based across Australia.
I mainly worked as a Group Leader on a variety of programs ranging from three-day hardtop camps with year three students, to three-week expeditions with year elevens. During my time with OEG I gained a number of internal qualifications, including the opportunity to work in a support/mentor role for cycling-based programs.
Working for OEG allowed me to improve on my remote area and independent group management skills due to the nature and location of most of the programs.
Outdoor Education Instructor, Blue Pearl
October – December 2017
During Autumn/Winter 2017 I worked in Qatar with Blue Pearl. I worked in a varied role which included water sports instruction, mountain bike tours and running outdoor education camps for international schools. I was predominantly involved in instructing the mountain biking, teambuilding and field studies areas of the camps, in addition to acting as camp coordinator on occasions. I was also given the opportunity to improve my kayaking and SUP instruction skills, as well as off-road driving when it was needed for the program.
Outdoor Education Instructor, Village Camps
August – October 2017
For the start of Autumn 2017 I worked in the Swiss Alps with Village Camps as an Outdoor Education Instructor for school children. I instructed a variety of topics, including glaciology, hydroelectricity, shelter and fire building, as well as looking after counsellor groups for the week and running evening activities.
