Description

Dear Sir/Madam,
I have previous relevant experience, the most recent being the six months I spent in Nicaragua as a volcano expedition leader.  In this role, I was responsible for leading groups of tourists (up to 20 adults) on a variety of one day and overnight hikes, including camping in remote areas.  I was passionate about making every hike an adventure to remember for clients and I loved to pass on everything I knew about the local area, culture, flora and fauna..
Since leaving school, I have been working regularly for the National Citizenship Service (NCS) which is a summer camp programme for young people (15-17 years old).  Initially, I was senior team leader, where I was responsible for up to 15 young people leading them through all the activities in the programme.  This included outdoor activities such as rock climbing, gorge walking, caving, surfing, high ropes, kayaking, canoeing, coasteering, mountain boarding etc.
More recently, I was awarded greater responsibility as part of the NCS programme; in 2016 I was promoted to residential coordinator and in 2017 to programme leader.  These roles hold me to more accountability such as managing other staff members and the overall care of young people on the programme.
As outlined in my CV, the majority of my employment has been leading and teaching physical activity.  For example I was a PE teacher at a primary school.  I was also a cycling instructor for young people teaching them to be independent, safe and proficient while road cycling. I have natural leadership qualities and a fun and friendly manner suitable for jobs of this nature.
I can offer an excellent level of customer service, for example, during my time as bike mechanic and sales assistant I always did my best to help customers and serve them in store. I enjoy meeting new people and passing on my knowledge about bikes and cycling.
Since the age of 14 I have been a keen cyclist and undertook elite level training for 10 years (20+ hours per week).  At 18 I moved to Belgium to cycle professionally.  I have been a semi-professional rider for UK and Belgian teams racing across Europe.  I stopped competing at the age of 25 but I still cycle at a high level.
In my spare time, I mostly engage in some kind of physical activity like cycling, hiking, trail running, climbing and surfing.
I am currently in application for a working visa for New Zealand and looking to spend more time travelling and working in the adventure or outdoor industry.
Yours faithfully
Robert Ward
